I’ve been running Elden Ring Nightreign since launch, and in 2026 the community is still chewing over one very specific quality-of-life gripe: ground loot. We can fell Nightlords, master Nightfarer kits, and dance around the Night’s closing ring, but when a camp pops open like a piñata, I still find myself squinting at a pile of glowing junk while the clock ticks down. That’s the crux of a recent Nightreign subreddit thread that picked up traction: give us more weapon info when items drop on the ground. 🎮🌙

The Ground Loot Problem
The pitch is simple. Clearing a camp or point-of-interest in Nightreign tends to cough up a decent amount of loot to sort through. You have weapons, talismans, consumables, and enough visual noise to make your eyes cross. The request is for a few extra details on the drop itself, so you can quickly scan and decide instead of pausing to play detective.
As commenters pointed out — and I went in to verify with a quick run — you can see a weapon class type by hitting R3 for details. That same prompt also gives you info on Weapon Arts and passives, which helps a ton. But even then, you can get confused by an item name in the heat of the moment. You either stop and read, or you gamble and pray.
Here’s the rub: R3 still doesn’t account for scaling. Commenters note that scaling is incorporated into the overall damage number on a weapon, so the raw number isn’t lying to you. But sometimes seeing scaling can help. Knowing a raw damage number only tells you the damage of one hit, not how fast you can swing it. It’s also uncertain whether that number incorporates split damage weapons. Long story short, the current system is good, but it’s not quite great.
| What I can see now | How I see it | What I still want |
|---|---|---|
| Weapon class type | Hit R3 for details | Clearer scaling info |
| Weapon Arts | R3 details panel | Faster comparison at a glance |
| Passives | R3 details panel | Split damage clarification |
| Overall damage number | Weapon stat readout | Swing speed context |
The Colored Names Debate
In another, potentially more controversial post, one Redditor suggested loot names on the drops, in colored text. I’ll be honest: this one got a mixed reaction from me. I don’t know that seeing a bunch of cluttered names littered on the ground would help that much. Part of the thrill is picking an item up off the ground and debating its merits, all while the ticking clock and the urgency of the Night closing in put a fire under your feet. That stress is not nothing. It’s part of the Nightreign spice. ⏳
Still, in that same thread, others are asking for the same clarity as the first one. Scaling and other details can be found in the sparring grounds, through the equipment chest. That does mean internalizing a lot of knowledge or having a wiki handy. There’s a real desire for even a few extra tidbits of info, to help make those swift calls and decisions. I get it. When you’re one hit away from a Nightlord wipe, you don’t want to be doing algebra on a weapon’s hidden modifiers.
FromSoftware Is Listening
It’s an understandable desire, even if I’m not sure any of the suggestions yet have looked like the right implementation. FromSoftware is clearly paying attention to player feedback, though. The quick patch to nerf solo player difficulty and the commitment to adding a Duos mode are proof that the studio is not asleep at the wheel. We’ll see if this is an area FromSoftware feels like it needs to fine-tune, or if it’s left as-is.
My gut says the answer is somewhere in the middle. Maybe not floating colored names everywhere, but perhaps an optional toggle, a deeper R3 panel, or a cleaner comparison mode. The technology exists. The question is whether it fits the game’s deliberately tense loop. Nightreign is not a leisurely inventory management sim. It’s a sprint through a collapsing world, and every second spent reading is a second not spent swinging.
What Every Nightfarer Should Do
Until the loot UI gets its glow-up, some study time in the sparring grounds could ultimately do every Nightfarer some good. I know it sounds like homework, but knowledge is power when the Nightlord is breathing down your neck. Here’s my quick checklist:
-
🗡️ Visit the equipment chest and study scaling, Weapon Arts, and passives.
-
🧠 Learn the weapon classes you actually use, not every weapon under the sun.
-
⚔️ Practice a few swings in the sparring grounds to feel the speed difference.
-
🌙 Keep an eye on patch notes; FromSoftware has already shown it listens.
-
🏆 Focus on the eight Nightlord bosses one at a time, not all at once.

At the end of the day, I love Nightreign’s messy, urgent loot scramble. But I also wouldn’t say no to a little more info on the ground. Give me scaling. Give me a cleaner read. Just don’t give me a screen so cluttered that I can’t see the Nightlord charging at me. That would be a real kick in the teeth. 🎮
